Where to bring roos??

The original post said these Roos were 4 months old. Can anyone tell me when I should expect entire roo behavior from any roosters I might raise. 4 months still seems like I would be seeing juvenile behavior, maybe 8-12 months for real roo behavior? I have no idea, could anyone share?

I have so many options to bring the roos to that won't kill them at all. I am just trying to find the perfect homes. I am no longer very desperate. Although they are "just roosters", they only live once and they deserve to be born, live a long happy life, and die when god kills them, in a warm bed of straw. Most people do not think the same way as i, for i have empathy for EVERY living thing. I hate when people don't think about what the animal has to go through.(including at the end of their lives)

humans are the cruelest beings alive.

I would say 90 percent of chickens are tortured, and that is why I have chickens. I give the 14 chickens I have the life that every chicken wants. At my house, A spent hen is treated as a laying hen , as well as an agressive rooster is treated like gold. Thank you for your comments....

BTW...IM ONLY 13 YEARS OLD, maybe that explains to you why i act like such a freak...

You are not a freak. I think it is very nice how much you care about your chickens. I am the same way! I'm happy you have been able to find good homes for some of your cockerals and hope you are able to rehome all of them to homes that you are comfortable with. Good luck!

Hi,

There will be two different places having sales in your area. The Chicken Fiesta at Shay's is June 4th and June 5th is the boston poultry show. Check out the forum on here for the Mass Chicken Fiesta. The the birds will need to be tested and Muffi just posted the link to your State for getting them tested. I think it's free if you are a MA resident. You can search around for folks that just need a hen watcher for their backyard flocks.

Good luck!!!

My 2 EE roos were FABULOUS for the first 11 months. Everything changed at that point. They started fighting with each other first - hard, and then me. One of them was also brutal with the hens. My solo Barred Rock roo made it about 10 months before he turned into a jerk. Great with the hens and even his babies but a total jerk with me. I have yet to get past the one year point with a roo.

Yeah, that's exactly why I go for sexed pullets. I know that male chicks are still being killed for me to get my pullets, but it's not my heartbreak (sounds selfish, I know). As someone said earlier, even when you get sexed birds, mistakes can be make. I ended up with a silkie cockerel (one out of four chicks) after paying quite a bit extra assuming they would all be female.
With only one rooster being needed for 10 or more hens, and a 50/50 chance of cockerels hatching out of eggs, there's just no way to get around there being far too many roosters. There are certainly worse fates out there than an anonymous person (if you can't do it yourself) somewhere being fed thanks to an unwanted rooster. Keep that in mind if you can't find good homes for your little birds.

ANy possibilties of pics yet? I know BYC has requirements; maybe you can post now? It might drum up some interest!

I have my laying hens and I also have a Bantam addiction..lol
But where I get my chicks from they don`t sex banties
and I have quite an assortment. But when I can start telling who is cockerel and who is pullet I will inadvertently have to pack up
the little roos and I will take them to the farmers market and try trade for something good to eat.

Good luck!!

Ok people!! I have now found a. Good home for all of my roosters!!!! No more roos! I miss them already.
