Will the leaves and stuff bring up snakes?

Nope. But i have seen snakes get into nest boxes a time or 2. Once inside my incubator! Leaves don't attract snakes, mice do. Food draws mice, they love chicken feed!

Deep litter is when you keep piling up shavings or whatever you use in the coop and turn it or get the chickens to do it and compost in the coop or run.

Shade is essential. If your front yard is too shaded, maybe have an arborist out to assess the tree situation. A good pruning can work wonders, for both the health of the trees and to give you more sunshine out front.

I don't let my dogs out without me. We live right off of a dangerous highway. We've lost several dogs to that road over the years. So there goes that idea.

I don't mind snakes unless they eat eggs or birds. Great mouse and rat killers! King snakes eat other snakes, but they killed 4 of my partly grown guinea keets. I caught them and relocated.
