Where to buy DE for Deep Litter Method?

Ok so Im totally Lost, I understand the whole Deep Litter Method (DLM) but Im totally lost as to where to buy Food Grade diatomaceous earth (better known as DE). I can find DE at Home depot but its not food grade. Im very excited to try the DLM with my standards and my bantams but I am missing the key ingreadent so If anyone has any insite I would really appriciate it! Im from Eastern Ohio/western PA (right next to teh ohio pa line) So mom and pop shops in other states may not help.

Some feedstores carry it. At the feedstore I go to they say "We don't carry it" but they do carry "Fossil Flour" which is a brand name. So call around. And ask if they will do a special order for you.
Ask on your state thread, often your neighboring chicken owners know where you can find it.
A lot of people order it on line, some have mentioned that shipping is expensive.

I use Stall-Dri - - it is a mixture of DE and clay - most feedstores carry it

I didn't feel like calling around, so I just ordered 50# through an Amazon.com vendor and it was like $48 with shipping. Local may have been a bit cheaper, but add in gas and my time and all, and that seemed like a good deal since it should last forever with my 5 hens.

DE is not required for the deep litter method, so I wouldn't let that stop you from starting. DE can be used or not used in any coop, using any method of litter management.
