where to buy turkeys?

I ordered mine from Welp because they had the best price. It's m first order with them so I have no idea what their stock is like.

Anyone around Wilmington, OH have Mammoth Bronze or Royal Palm poults for sale end March/Start April ?

Not sure how far they are from you, but Mt Healthy hatchery in Ohio has mammoth bronze (but not royal palm). I have been happy with their poults, and they are great people. Even when the PO killed some of my poults (what part of 'call on arrival with my phone number is that hard to understand?

) but they replaced them. They sent extras in both shipments.

I already ordered chicks from them (surplus special) for pickup on 03/31/2010. The poults I was reluctant on due to price with no gender choice. Am I being to demanding?

I have checked on turkeys through 4 hatcheries and all of them sell them straight run and some of them are more expensive than what you are looking for. I am not aware of any place that is selling sexed poults.
Just to give you an idea, I ordered some BBW from a farm here and they were $4.65 but the heritage breeds online I am looking at are almost $9.00, all in all I think its a fair price and I would order them soon if they are really want you want.

I have heritage turkey pairs for sale, if you want that type. (Bourbon Red hens and toms). In southeast Penna. near Lancaster.

I also haven't seen anyone that sells sexed poults. I think the BB types from Mt Healthy actually seem to grow a wee bit slower than the turkeys that I used to get from McMurray, fine with me! I think it's easier on their legs, and one year some of my McMurray birds were so huge in November that the lady that wanted the biggest one couldn't find a roasting pan big enough and ended up having to cut the legs off to cook it. This past year was my first with Mammoth Bronze instead of whites (actually was a mistake while ordering that I didn't catch on the order confirmation). Everyone was saying how small they were compared to previous years, until they were dressed out. Those dark feathers were deceptive! I think the toms (from poults hatched June 8th) were 25 - 27 pounds, the hens were around 15 pounds. I will say that I probably could have gotten them bigger, but I prefer to keep the growth slowed down somewhat.

Edited to add: Kevin, I ordered chicks from them last year and wanted to add that I was very pleased with the chicks that I got. Unfortunately, I ended up with just 7 out of 20 (actually got 27 and gave a friend some), but that was no fault of the hatchery. The chicks lived to 14 weeks and then a neighbors dog dug into the chicken tractor... ugh!

c) get others experience with ordering unknown sex poults

Next question, anyone ever been involved with 4-H Turkeys?
My daughter (8) is going for broiler chicken competition. That I know how it works. When I asked about turkeys, no one had a clue since that group always had goats/sheep participants. Anyone give me detail on the turkey part of 4-H for Ohio? I looked EVERYWHERE for detailed info (even osu.edu).
