Where to find Call Ducks?

They have beautiful birds, and they aren't ridiculously expensive either...and at least on the same coast as me.

That is a very good point. Perhaps use them as a starting point and then keep looking for some that are higher quality for them to use as they advance. Hmmmmm..... Well this is the link...I apologize if I am breaking rules: http://sacramento.craigslist.org/grd/3118172039.html
Aweeeee, id totally buy some, even of they where not exact!! Then I would have tiny mallards (calls), normal mallards, and large mallards (rouens)!!! omgomg, new goal :D But for you I would snatch 2 up and se where it goes, and it will atleast give your daughters entertained while your still searching :)

if you want show quality calls, you buy ducks in the fall from private breeders and know what quality you are getting. to buy blindly off of CL will often get you pet quality, being too tall and too long in the bill.

not if the goal is to sow them. She is looking for birds to be shown, I suggest visiting the call duck clubs website and contact breeders there about what you are looking for. Color and how many. This way you can secure birds and be ready for them to ship to you when the temperatures drop in the fall. Then you and the kids can spend time building their aviary and housing to be ready for them.

We had a collection of SQ calls and it is well worth waiting and not buying the first "supposedly" a call duck that comes along. Good luck on your hunt.

Here are some of ours for reference.

My daughters would really like to have a few call ducks to use for 4H, but I am having a horrible time finding them. My problem is this, I've seen a few advertised, but when I go to look at them, they just don't seem very "typey" to me. Many seem too large, bills too long, and just not...right compared with call ducks i have seen at shows. I don't want to buy from a hatchery, but does anyone have any ideas on where to find decent ones? We don't mind doing ducklings or hatching eggs either. I've seen hatching eggs on eBay, but I fear the same result...atypical call ducks. Suggestions? Hoping I placed this in the right section. Not quite sure where this fits in.
I just found a full nest of fertilized eggs in my female snowy call ducks nest! I'm delighted cause I wanted more!! They are so much fun to have,I hope you find some soon.Mine are so cute, and small,,I lucked out by getting eggs from them,as I rescued the couple from a terrible circumstance and they're a bit over 3 years old. Good luck! wish I could help, would have loved to help you if we were closer :)

We were lucky enough to run into a breeder at a local poultry auction...well it was lucky for my neighbors. He only breeds white call ducks & we were looking for snowy, so I had to order my daughter's 4-H birds and pay for shipping, which I hate! My neighbors made the 3 hour drive yesterday to get birds for their kids though.

Thanks guys! I will keep looking. The girls have other birds to keep them busy. I'm doing some emailing to some breeders and hoping that I might run into someone at the fair in Sept that might have some birds they would like to let go from their flock.
