Where to get baby chicks? We lost our chickens

I suspect if you found no carcasses or injured chickens some will make it be back tomorrow.They might wind up at a neighbors house. Are you sure they weren't coyotes?

We are not sure but have seen several dogs recently on our property and had a neighbor say they killed his chickens.

We found a few carcasses but 10 are still unaccounted for.

So sorry about your flock. That sounds like a nightmare.

Ideal Poultry is good. They are in Tx which should be fast shipping to you. Also like McMurray & Meyer. Have worked with all 3 hatcheries and like them all. Maybe check what breeds they have that you are looking for and see who has the most you like?

edit: If you'll go to your county commissioners office you can file a claim (with the state) for loss of livestock from predators and be reimbursed.You must be able to furnish proof.(Hopefully enough to buy chicks locally) Few people bother to do this but I don't know why. I've never see anyone mention they've done this before in the forums.Not sure why.

You can order them directly from Hoovers, or from Tractor Supply, and they will order them from Hoovers Hatchery. They may ship the chicks to the store if you're interested in that. Might have more arrive alive that way?

That assortment of breeds will not be available with any hatchery this time of year. Earliest will most likely be April. The only 2 I can think of who are shipping chicks right now are Ideal and Privett. Their pickings are slim to none.

Sorry about your chickens. I have ordered through Tractor Supply twice, this October and last October and was very satisfied with the chicks I received. They order through Hoover's Hatchery. If you order through TSC, they have packages that come in groups of 10. I think if you order from Hoover's directly, you have to order 15, but can have more individual choices.

Just a thought but perhaps you can contact Rural Kings corporate office and find out when the closest store is getting the breeds you want ?
