What hatcheries would you recommend for show quality Cornish cross? I know Hatcheries are somewhat of a gamble but tractor supply is my only other option. Some qualities I'm looking for are health on arrival, wide breast, long wide body, and good bone structure.

Thanks to all who comment. They are only going to the fair so they don't have to be perfect. Most of them will be for meat. Just figured I would get some opinions.

First, welcome to BYC. IMHO, you can get CC's from any hatchery that offers them. It really won't make too much difference. As they grow out, you pick the best to use for showing. Perhaps you could contact the 4H or FFA reps nearest you for their recommendations?

The issue right now (and in the dead of winter) is how far away the hatchery is, due to heat. You don't say where you're located so no idea what hatchery is closest to you. Ideally, you could drive to the hatchery and pick the birds up vice sending them via the USPS. In this heat, chicks packed in a tractor trailer for a long over the road trip to you stand a good chance of dying en route.

According to Google maps, Hoover's hatchery is 8 hours from my house. Is that close enough to ship? They have free shipping and a minimum order of 15. They also appear to have decent reviews.

I won't be ordering till spring. I'm just preparing and will be building a meat bird coop soon so they don't go with my layers.
