I live in the Charlotte area and need somewhere to get organic feed. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Jonsun, I can feel your pain. I had to go through the exact same thing in TN. Now there are enough people looking for non-medicated all organic feed in the area that it is becoming more popular. Good luck on this! I found a local feed store and our local Co-op carries some good stuff too. The good thing is that if one Co-op has it then the others will as well.

Countryside Natural has a product with a lovely ingredient list, but see my other post concerning my worries that the pieces are too big for newly hatched chicks. If you decide to go with them, you can mail order it from their website.

This is the only North Carolina one I have on a list of organic retailers and suppliers. Is this too far?

, could you tell where you get your organic feed in TN? I am always trying to add to the list. Could you post it here? https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=283211 Thanks!

Mixing your own is your best option.

I too live in Charlotte, and will be getting my chicks (8 of them) late July. Also looking for advice on where to purchase organic feed....will be watching this thread closely.

If you go to the Countryside Naturals website, they will have a listing of resellers by state. I live in Wake County (Raleigh) and the reseller here takes orders once a quarter. Her next order will be in early June. She did not say she had a co-op, but because she has large orders, shipping is greatly reduced (say $2.00 for a 50# bag). I took a ride to Fisherville, VA myself last week and bought a few things. It was worth the drive just for the DE ($25.00 for 50#). Also, I've noticed that my chickens eat less organic vs. commercial during the day. And when I offer them BOSS in the evening, they don't seem as ravenous and greedy as before. Just an observation. Good luck!

Jonsun,

I highly recommend Countryside Natural, even with the additional cost of shipping. I started my newly hatched chicks on their Chick Starter, and they absolutely love it. They are 6+ weeks old now and I have switched them to the Grower version (same feed just not ground as fine). They didn't have a problem with the size of the chick feed, and very rarely billed out anything.

Countryside is soy-free, and the quality is excellent. Good luck!
