Where to hang sweeter heater?

Might get more attention?

How far from wall is the roost nearest wall?
I spoke with Holly from Sweeter Heater, she recommended I do the vertical mount as heat will disperse evenly along the roost and they will get the most from it. I will have to suspend it from balloon framed rafter. Either cable or chain link.

I must say amazing customer service from Sweeter Heater! I placed the order before 2 so it should be to me tomorrow or Monday at latest :wee

Great, glad you got some help!
I was kinda thinking vertical behind the roost too.

Instead of using chains to go all the way up to rafters,
you could use some L-brackets attached to studs,
might have to add a sister nailer(chuck of wood attached alongside stud to give more attachment surface) and hang it from those.

How close to the wall can you hang it, is there a safety clearance?

Great idea! Behind the roost would allow more to fit under without squabbling. I can even remove a roost plank for a few days if I need more room. I’m hoping it comes with safety clearance instructions, if not I’ll definitely be emailing. Going to look into brackets as well, good call. I will more than likely need longer chains so a hardware pit stop will be in order

On a side note, I was also thinking of extending the roost/poop board along south facing window. They seem to fight over the closest spot to that window and I believe it’s for warmth.

Often times I wonder why I still live where the wind hurts my face

Just during the day?
Probably no matter at night....not at those temps!!

So is this only for your guinea coop....IIRC you have 2 coops? Maybe not, CRS

Once you get the thing in your hands more may become apparent...or not.
I'm sure you'll figure it out....use screws so you can 'adjust'.

The temps and real feel just keep dropping. It is now going to be -34 with -40 to -60° real feel. Yikes!!

I’m still waiting on my heater. It’s on the truck and will be delivered today. I will be hanging it up this evening. Last night in the crazy wind and snow we insulated the coop. It feels much warmer in there. If I run into a rodent issue or any hints at all I will be taking it all out but this gives me a peace of mind for winter.

You are correct! I have two coops. I moved my four younger hens into the garage during this frigid craziness.

This is how I did it. They are flush mounted against the ceiling of the coop about 14 inches above the birds heads. The heaters don't actually heat the air in the coop, just things that will absorb heat like the birds. My thought was that the birds feathers protect their bodies and they sit on the flat perch to protect their feet so the only thing that really needs help is their vulnerable heads. The heaters put out a fairly uniform heat that raises the temp about 10 or maybe 15 degrees depending on ambient temp. Prevents frostbite and the chickens sleep comfortably through the night. I have mine set on a device that activates the heater when temps go below 32 degrees and turns the heaters off when the temps go up to 35 degrees. The birds may not even need it but I sleep better knowing they won't have black combs and waddles from frostbite and the coop won't be burned down in the night. the birds in the picture were about 4 months old so slightly smaller than they are now but you can see the proportions somewhat given the odd camera angle I needed to shoot upwards toward the heaters.
