Where to order my chicks online from?

We are looking to get about 6 chicks in June, any recommendations for a reliable online dealer ( as there are not many places that sell by me and if they do don't have what were looking for and/or during that time period). We are deciding between breeds now, but only want female!!! Any recommendations for a website that sells healthy, sexed chicks. I know I have to keep in account the risk of their long journey. and I think there are a few others that sell in smaller quanities...most hatcheries have a 25 minimum order--you will have to pay more shipping for a smaller amount though, hope you do realize that.

If you only want 6, you don't have many choices, as most hatcheries have a minimum order of 25. Places to try:

Meyer Hatchery (http://www.meyerhatchery.com) -- located in Ohio, minimum order is 3 chicks plus you can get a free Meyer Meal Maker chick, too. Customer service is fabulous! Be sure to request that a heat pad be included in the shipping box to keep your babies warm.

My Pet Chicken (http://www.mypetchicken.com) -- not sure where it's located, since the phone area code and mailing address don't match, and I've been told it's affiliated with Meyer Hatchery. Three chick minimum.

Ideal Poultry (http://www.idealpoultry.com) -- no minimum number of chicks, but you must spend a minimum of $25. They will add extra male chicks as "packing peanuts" so, if you don't want this, pay a small "insurance" charge.

You might also want to check out your local Craigslist for breeders near you, as many online hatcheries have already sold out of chicks for coming-up dates. Good luck!

We have 4 chicks coming next month from My Pet Chicken, I've read mostly good things about them. Shipping was $35 but that's to be expected w/express shipping and a heat pack included. They sex bantams too, they may be the only ones that do.
