Where To Place Thermostat

I am putting a thermostat in my styrofoam homemade incubator. The light bulb comes in through the lid, and i have a fan. I placed the thermostat hanging from the lid about 4 inches from light... is that ok?

You are suppose to put the thermometer where the eggs set.

ya i do that but i heard to put the thermostat close to bulb
