Where to put waterer and feeder

We made a hanging feeder out of a leftover piece of plastic gutter (about about 3 feet long). We fastened it to the fence with wire. It could just as easily have been screwed to a wall. We meant to cap the ends, but found that there wasn't much spillage and cleanup is easy, we just hose it out once in a while and wipe it down with bleach solution.

We have our feeder and water hanging from hooks in the top of the coop (wooden beam across it) and have had no problems with rats or any type of vermin. Even leaving it over night just hanging outside.

We have our feeders hanging from rafters also, but I have some very small chickens, so they have to hang just a few inches off the ground in order for my little ones to reach the feed. Unfortunately the rats have no problem reaching the feed either.
There is a rat problem in our neighborhood, which makes it especially difficult to control them. They even ate my dried peppers that I had hanging in the porch.
Our house looks awfull, because we had to bring everything inside, that the rats might get into. So we have grain, corn, luffa, dried peppers, millet, pumkins, herbs etc all over the living room and dining room. We grow a lot of feed for the animals ourselves and it is stored in the house, until we can get metal or glass containers for everything.

Update on my food and waterer they hang in there day pen run off the ground and no longer put water and feed in there coops at nite and now they are all lined up on there roost doing what they are suppose to be doing at night sleeping..more room in there coop too if no water and feeder in with them..I let them out early in a. m.
