Where will our ancient dying hen be most comfortable?

We have a hen about 10 years old that is passing away, likely organ failure or heart failure of some kind. She does not appear to be suffering or we would end it humanely and quickly, but she is fading steadily. It is 47F outside here where she is in her run, separated from other chickens and nestled in hay. Would she be more comfortable passing indoors where it is warmer? The only time other she has been inside in the past was very brief. I wonder if the change in environment will be worse? Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi,

I'm very sorry. You obviously took very good care of her!

As long as she's eating, drinking, and getting around okay, she'd be happiest with her flock. Even if she's not out there scratching around with them, she can see and hear them.

If she fades and you do bring her in, I'd also bring in whichever other chicken she seemed to like the best.

Wishing you the best in providing her a happy ending to her life.
:hugs

If she's not mobile, I would still keep her in the coop or run. But inside something protective, that still allows her to see the flock close by... like a wire crate, or even a litter box with nesting material.
Sometimes as they pass, other chickens can get too curious and stand on them or peck at them. Even the litter box can help because it delineates the space and hides part of her body.

They feel safest with their flock, so I would leave her there. But sheltered at the same time.
