I noticed my momma hen has lost the feathers around the top part of her neck. I have no idea if this is supposed to happen or if she may be sick, or what might be wrong, so I am asking you all for your opinion. Thank you.

First of all, how old is she? and second do you have roos??? If you have roos, it could be them pulling them out when they are doing their business. Look at this link... warning graphic pics... but this is what the roos did to a few of my hens. Poor Rosebud was the only one though that got an owie.

Also another reason but probably not the sorce... molting?

I would put my money on the roos. Can you post any pics? might help. I cant say that I am right... just trying to help... hopefully someone else has another idea.

Thanks for the info, my hen is I think a little over a year old or maybe just a little more. And I have one rooster. I looked at the pics in the link AWWW, but no her neck doesn't look that bad its still feathers on her neck, but just very thinned out from the rest of her neck.

It could be the roo then being a little agressive.. It is natural... Just keep an eye on her so she does not get as bad as my girl. Roos grab the neck when mating... I believe that is the cause... but like I said earlier... hopefully someone will come along and either agree or educate us both.
