My 6 month old Speckled Sussex was acting very strangely yesterday. She was puffed up and barely waddling around the yard. Usually she is like a rocket ship zooming around and getting into everything. I was afraid she had eaten something poisonous and was really beginning to worry. After a while she moved from the spot she had been standing in for a while and my husband noticed an egg on the ground. When he picked it up he said there is something weird here. The egg was pretty big and very squishy. It looked like the yolk, white and membrane were there, but no shell.
Does anyone know if this is just something that happens once in a while or is it something I should worry about? She is fed Dumor layer feed, has free choice oyster shell and has an after noon ration of vegetation and bugs during free range. She normally lays very large eggs, often double yolk with a thick hard shell and had laid a normal egg earlier in the day. She was fine after she laid the shell less egg.
