Whew! THAT was close!

Dont take my word, try shooting one and not getting sprayed.  I have relocated several skunks by throwing a blanket on top of a live trap.  I have also shot several skunks and every time they released some amount of spray (yes all were head shots)

It was just a suggestion.  If you want to shoot it by all means go ahead, I shoot every possum.  I relocated several raccoons and skunks out to large reserves before where they wont do harm to other people

Every time I head shoot a skunk...it sprays.

I went out and bought a Syringe Skunk Pole. It's an aluminum pole about 8 ft long with a syringe on the end. I load it with a solution of potassium chloride and inject the skunk in tge side right behind the front leg. Since doing this, never has a skunk sprayed...works every time all the time.

My thoughts as well.

Yeah I just wanted to make sure that the OP knew it would stink, and it seemed I was getting ridiculed.

I absolutely hate skunk smell lingering around my house for days

I've never heard of a skunk pole before. Anyway to dispatch of a skunk without the smell works for me. You must get a lot of skunk that you needed to invest in that lol. I'm not envying you :)

Oh trust me I get it...the smell of a skunk makes me physically ill...

Ever since I got sprayed right in the mouth when I was a kid. I was with my buddies back in grade school, we were going through an alphalfa field on our way to the bus stop when I saw a skunk right infront of us, so I yelled, "Hey look a SKUN...." Followed by gag, choke, cough....FAINT.

I live in town so most of my issues are neighborhood cats and such.

I trapped for ~20 years as a hobby...that's where I learned to deal with skunks, foxes, raccoons, mink....you get it.

I still get calls from some of old permissions asking me to come back out and take care of this or that...and I do....

Man I wish I would have known about that when I trapped.

I once got a skunk caught in a dog proof raccoon trap, worst experience of my life as you could imagine

Coon-Cuffs...you caught a skunk in Coon-Cuffs. That is hilarious...I have a dozen or so of those traps, and ONLY ever caught coons with them.

OMG!!! How did you manage that?

LOL....that is do funny.

Honestly I have no idea. I always baited my traps with marshmallows. The only thing I can think of is he either walked directly into it, or be really really wanted a marshmallow

When I saw that skunk in my trap I about died. I couldn't even think of what to do. I ended up taking a shot and got a full on spray.

I could smell the skunk on me for what felt like a month lol. In hindsight it is somewhat funny that I caugh a skunk on it which would probably never happen again, but a terrible overall experience lol

We're used to dealing with predators, but you have know way of knowing that.

ETA - pauleberly, you were not being ridiculed for your statement about relocating. Obviously it's something people feel strongly about. We live out in the country (rural area, 20 miles from town, lots of crop land. I don't want someone to dump their problem animal off in my neighborhood, whether it be a now trap savvy raccoon or skunk, or unwanted dog or cat (yep, we've had our share of those, too).
