Which Black Copper Marans Rooster should I keep?

Thanks for the input. I will definitely check beaks and feet and try to learn about measurements. A started the same size but QUICKLY became bigger and denser. It's was like picking up a bullfrog when you grab him.

I figured if he doesn't turn out good im sure there will be another rooster I'm another rbatch of chicks.
That's the fun part about hatching..you always stand a 50-50 chance for more boys. I sold around 20 last year thru test matings most of my hens and kept these 2.

Personally I’d hang on for a bit longer. Yes the big Marans boys are usually good to keep, but B has the better head and his type looks a little more rectangular (though the photos aren’t conclusive).

But like others have said, A is currently the better one, bigger, wider body and wider stance. No high tails so you can be happy about that.

Go with A if you need rid of one soon, but ideally see how they both compare when a little older.

I don't even have Marans - but this is fascinating. Makes one think hmmm - maybe I could try???

I have always just bred for ...alive. Now, though, I am retired, and a bit of time on my hand. It would be fun to be a part of a group on here... may have to look around.

I have raised chicks, hatched eggs, raised up meat birds...there are just so many aspects to this hobby.

So when I am looking for a more rectangular body I should be comparing side views like these and they should be more of a rectangle vs a square? Sorry if that's a silly question I'm totally new at this.

I just started myself! Each breed has such amazing characteristics. I'm good at keeping them alive and happy so I figured why not try and have fancier chickens lol. Pick a breed and go for it! There are so many kind people out there willing to help you learn and share their knowledge :)

Yes, the three main types are triangle, rectangle and square, though the fleshing on the breast also varies within each. A looks a bit triangular to me but as he fattens up or his feathering changes it might reveal better type.
