My dominiques are very freindly and love to jump up on me but lately they are a little overly aggressive about it, and they think my fingers are worms.

My EE is also very friendly but wont eat out of my hand, just wants to climb up me or sit on my arm.

These 3 cornish will be 19 weeks this weekend. So far, they are happy healthy, and dont seem to mind the heat too much. They lay in front of the fan...and come outside for treats...and towards evening when its cooler, they come outside and just peck around. I call them the BIG HERD. LOL They are just too sweet. Who knows...maybe they will reward me with some big white eggs!

Since I have only had one each of five different breeds, I don't have much to compare to, but out of my five, my Dominique is by far the most affectionate. She loves to be petted and goes to sleep in my lap. She used to bite my fingers, but I taught her not to. Now she's a good girl. The Buff Orp is friendly and tolerates some petting, but doesn't really seem to enjoy it. She likes to get in my daughter's lap, but won't stay long and doesn't snuggle. Same thing with the Australorp except she tolerates even less petting. The RIR is friendly enough to be easily caught and handled, but that's about it. The EE is a nut case - she will come for treats and then run. She can't stand any human contact otherwise. If you even move your hand near her she takes off. If you manage to catch her, she screams and struggles like she is being tortured. All of them had the same handling as babies.

My RIR's are by far the ones who like to be held the most. One in particular who I call Ethel I carry around with me while I do my evening routine.

My chicks are only 12 days old, but this is how they act so far.
Our Buff Opington is so sweet .She always jumps into your hand when you reach into the brooder. She then nestles down in your hand and won't get up until you make her.
I think my Frizzle bantam gets jealous because she will fly up and jump in my other hand. She really seems to like being held.
My other frizzle seems a little shy though, but she will tolerate being held and will eat out of my hand.
My Ameraucana will protest a little if you pick her up but then she's fine. She will jump into my hand if there's food in it.
My Black Star really likes sitting on my shoulder and staring me right in the face. She even napped for a second with her beak on my lip.
My Partridge Rock Bantam used to seem stressed out a lot. She was pasted up and screamed for apparently no reason. Funny thing is when she is held she stops crying. I think she just wanted some mommy time. Now she is much easier to catch and appears to like being held.
My Barred Rock bantam so far just acts peculiar. She will eat out of my hand but that's about it so far.
The girl that protests the most if I TRY to catch her is my Buff Brahma bantam. She is really fast and zips around like crazy. If I do manage to catch her she screams and shakes like she's terrified. I don't think this is typical for her breed though, but I don't know.
My Silkie is also very difficult to catch and doesn't seem to like human attention.
All of my chicks will eat out of my hand so far and they don't seem to mind me being around for the most part.
Overall, from my experience I would have to say Buff Orpingtons are the sweetest and like being held the most.

I will join the club and say that my Buff Orpington is the sweetest chick of all. It's almost as if she (or he, I have a sinking feeling) is a whole other animal, like part dog! She likes people much more than she likes other chickens, and will follow us around and just hang out with us, like a pal. She MUST be picked up every time we're out there.

My barred rock is pretty nice and will tolerate being picked up and petted, my partridge rocks like to sit on shoulders but only if they choose to, my Delawares are friendly and curious but hate to be picked up. My RIRs used to be more friendly but as they've gotten older, not so much.

My speckled sussex and Jersey giants are nervous wrecks!!

How strange is it to say that my White leghorn is the nicest goofiest hen i have!!If i call her and clap my hands togather she will run over to me to be picked up,and put in my lap.Her floppy comb is so funny looking it lays over to the side and almost covers one of her eyes! She is the calmest bird i have,she never pecks the others,and follows me around!

I just bought 6 more from ideal,i hope they are as nice as she is...From what i here most leghorns are butts, i know my brown legerns are...

The red stars from the feed store I go to has the sweetest temperaments. Raise them with cornish x's and you got nice birds. I like the cornish x's. Only if they weren't so destined for the table. They are so nice, not flighty at all and walk right up and plop down by your feet. Their traits seem to rub off on other birds when you keep them together with them.
