Which of the following, in your opinion, make for good mothers:
-Barred Plymouth Rock
-Black Star
-Barnevelder
-Cream Legbar

Also, tips about how to induce broodiness would be well appreciated.

Also, with breed (not listed) in your opinion makes for the being the best mothers?

Silkies, silkies, silkies. Than cochins, both bantam and standard. They are broody breeds. Being a good mother is an individual trait, so that can't be predicted as easily.

Out of your list I would pick barnevelder as they go repeatedly broody for me. My hatchery barred rocks have never been broody.

x2. I've heard barnevelders go broody, and I've once had a broody barred-rock. No experience with the legbar, but my black star have never gone broody. If you like more typical hens, you could try for orpington.

New Hemisphere! In my opinion, they are the best mothers.

She was super protective and even fought off one of the roosters when he pecked a chick.

She used to be the lowest of the pecking order, now she is top hen in the flock since her first brood of chicks.
