Which Breed of Goat to Get???

For a milking doe which breed would you recommend/choose?

  • Nubians

  • Nigerian Dwarfs

  • La Manchas

  • Mini Nubians

I really want a goat, but I'm having some trouble choosing a certain breed of goat.
I want a goat that is NOT loud, friendly, and a good milker.
MILK: (range) 1-2 quarts and up to a gallon.
Thank You!!!
Nubians are loud!!
I did have one Nigerian Dwarf doe years ago whose scream could almost match a Nubian’s in volume… she was also a routine 6#/day milker when even my miniature LaManchas barely broke 5 pounds.

It’s hard to go wrong with Nigies; the one LaMancha doe I had was very soft-spoken.

I have Nubians and Nigerian dwarfs. I would vote for either one of those depending on whether you want a large milk goat that makes closer to 1 gallon a day or a smaller milk goat making around 2 quarts a day. Nubians and Nigerian dwarf also have very high butterfat compared to launches and the milk is very cream. I really love their milk compared to other breeds. Also reminder it depends on the quality of the doe for how much they are going to make and how easy their udder will be to milk. Look at her parents and grandparents to see if they will be what you want. Make to also buy from a clean test herd. It's better to spend more for a higher quality doe than start with one that wants to produce well, bond with her, and maybe have to sell to get one closer to what you want. Don't people say Nigerian dwarfs are just pet goats they produce very well you just need to know what to buy. Best wishes.

I think Nubians are a little louder than my Nigerian dwarf. Both are chill and quiet when they do what they want but are definitely loud when waiting to be milked in the morning lol. They quiet down after feeding and milking and all is well again. I don't think any goats are quiet though. I also have Oberhalis and I'd say they're quieter then than Nubians and ND.
