which breed of rooster is better for a non aggressive roo?

My Favorolle is very kind to both me and his hen. He even keeps a companion rooster in line, but never hurts him.
My Australorp is very aggressive but I think he may have been bread for fighting. I found him in a rather "seedy" area of Richmond, CA.

In even docile breeds, aggressive roosters can pop up. I have three BR roosters (their dad was my former flock roo) and one Blue Orpington. ALL are sweet, friendly, docile, even affectionate at times. I adore BRs, but hatchery stock is variable, more so than breeder stock, IMO.

Like digitS said all roosters have a tendency to grow up mean. I also have BR roos that are just as nice. That being said I will never have another RIR rooster since I had one that was mean as a kid and kept attacking me. So each rooster is different !!

The sweetest, most wonderful roosters I've had have been bantam Araucanas from a breeder.

This probably depends on the breeder and whether they cull for temperament, too.

But my bantam Araucanas have outdone every other rooster I've had in terms of personality, character, and entertainment value. They are sweet to their hens, too. One of them even helped forage for the chicks that a broody hatched in his coop, and generally looked after them. A real family guy.

My Marans roosters, however, are homicidal.

My sister has a mean buff orp roo, who came from McMurray hatchery. I've decided that breeder orp's must be wonderful - my experience with hatchery ones wasn't wonderful.

My nicest roosters were australorp/easter egger crosses. Never a speck of problems with them.

If I was a rooster and had a brain the size of a pea, I'm sure I'd consider anything that was fast and noisey and running around trying to catch my hens a threat too.
IMO, besides just getting a docile breed you have to teach children how to behave around chickens. And I DO consider my rooster to be an essential member of my flock.

None of my roosters have been mean and I think it's because they free-range, which keeps them very busy running about all day long and makes them way too tired to be mean.
