I am starting over with chickens after having married and moved across the country. I decided to raise a rare breed. There is a website that lists rare, threatened, and endangered breeds. Some are not so rare that large, well established hatcheries don't carry them. McMurray carries a lot of different breeds!! --But they are rare because they aren't as popular due to- perhaps, not being a fantastic egg-laying or meat bird. They're more ornamental.

I chose Sumatras to breed and possibly show.
And ordered a couple of Salmon Favorolles to see if I might potentially be interested in that breed as well. Both are considered rare breeds.
