Obviously, you are looking for more along the line of something other than an egg layer. These are pretty much what I call hobby breeds. The silky is probabally your best bet. Birds have a way of keeping themselves somewhat well groomed. Dont be surprized if you find them taking a mud bath or rolling in the dirt or sand. Its their their way of getting rid of lice, mites, loose feathers and dander amongst other things. Good luck!

I know you are asking about those breeds, and I would choose a silkie (I have always wanted one) but plymouth rock hens are really nice breeds, and so are some isa browns, and they are great eggers, so I am just giving another two options, but silkies are awesome little chickens

Silkies are very gentle for sure and make great pets. They can't fly so you have to put there perches low so they can perch. Added protection against preditors because they can't fly away.
