Im super excited because i thought id have to wait atleast a year to get some chickens but my dad just informed me the place he just moved to is soon to be chicken ready and i can get some in about a month. Since im very new to this im not sure which breed(s) to get. I definitely want good layers with large eggs, brown would be nice but not a must. He lives in upstate ny so we get both some pretty hot summers and very cold winters. If possible i would also like some pretty colors/markings. Can anyone please tell me what breeds i should be researching? Thanks for your help :)

I personally enjoy Wyandottes and Easter Eggers. Both breeds are great layers that are usually docile and people-loving. The Wyandottes come in many beautiful color varieties, including Silver Laced and Columbian, and Easter Eggers are usually very pretty, too--no Easter Egger looks alike. The Wyandottes lay nice brown eggs, and Easter Eggers can lay eggs of may colors, from brown, to green, to blue or even pink.
