which breed!!!???

darn, i lost the chance for the blue slates too. boy, turkeys sell pretty quick around here, so maybe this is a good thing. now my choice is royal palms or bronze, i may go with both and see how things go, that way i have a smaller and bigger bird. they are a good deal so i'd like to go for it, i can always switch breeds and whatnot down the road, just like to get my foot in the door for now.

toto65- id like to incubate the eggs, to be sure i get some babies rather than wait until they hatch them themselves. should i see if they will before i take the eggs? this is my first time with turkeys and hatching so any advice would be great!

birdbrain, I am probably not the best person to ask. I am only on my second year with turkeys other than the BBW's. From what I have read here and from talking to the few people in my area that have heritage turkeys, there is a better rate of hatching if the turkey does it herself but our temperatures are WAY too cold for me to risk it right now. Since these birds take longer to get to the size to process I have an incubator FULL of eggs from all my hens. I have a staggered hatch going on right now with my first eggs going into lockdown on Thursday and another batch every 5 days after. Thankfully I have 2 incubators, 1 with a turner and one without for hatching. There are a lot of people on here that have a LOT more expereince and hopefully they will chime in with the information that you are looking for. Good luck with your turkeys and watch out, they are addictive!
