Hi, I'm new here. Just moved to the country and we are getting ready to order our chicks from a hatchery. My question is are there any breeds that shouldn't be in mixed company with other breeds? We were thinkinf of getting 2 barred rocks, 2 buff orpingtons, 3 or 4 black australorps, and 2 americaunas. Any thoughts?

We have a similar mixed breed flock. We have Barred Rock, Black Australorp, Buff Orphington, Rhode Island Red, Silver Laced Wyandott, and Easter Eggers. We even kept one of each rooster until very recently. Because they had grown up together, they all get along. We have almost no hen drama and our Black Australorp rooster was the alpha male and kept everyone else in line. Because the roosters were too amorous for the number of hens we had, we ended up putting most of the roosters together for a while while we got an additional coop built and with no hens to fuss over, they got along fine. We have recently separated three roosters with six hens each. The other roosters were re-homed.
