Great plan! Don’t overthink it. It’s just chickens.Ermager you guys, we did some more on the coop today. DH coated the back wall with three coats of wb poly (and afterwards we realized I left a small drip)then we used a strap etc. to pull it considerably more straight, nail it up tight, jack it up enough to sawzall off the handful of rusty nails that were barely holding it up, and attach some lumber to carry it by.
Plan is to shore it up with some cross bracing, lift it up off and remove it from the base, remove / clean up entire footing (which is more or less rotting away and full of ants and bugs), and build a new frame out of treated 6x to set it back onto and attach, leaving a clean new dirt floor in the middle.
I figure we still need some kind of hw cloth against the ground, but otherwise between the dirt floor and the treated lumber base, I'm hoping will allow me to do a true deep litter. Does that all sound reasonable? Any tips or links to good threads on making deep litter work?
Sorry if this is boring, I just feel like I would be remiss not to ask when I've got all the BYC experts here in one place.![]()
I think they mean vertical from the wall to the ground. Not as actual HC flooring. Right , chipmunk?Rather than hardware cloth on the ground of the coop you can do horizontal apron around the outside. That way chickies won't accidentally hurt themselves scratching it
Oh that could be. Not quite sure what was meantI think they mean vertical from the wall to the ground. Not as actual HC flooring. Right , chipmunk?

Well he doesn't want to do an apron that would be visible and plus all the plants growing around. So I thought as floor covering would prevent anything getting in, and then under like 6-12" of bedding the Chickies wouldn't be anywhere near it really? You think it'd be better to like.... Trench it somehow around the inside edge and bury it inside vertically all around?I think they mean vertical from the wall to the ground. Not as actual HC flooring. Right , chipmunk?
That’s your little keet, right?
That’s what I would do, but there’s so many ways to skin a cat.Well he doesn't want to do an apron that would be visible and plus all the plants growing around. How many inches deep? That’s what I would do, but there’s so many ways to skin a cat.
