... with only three duck hens he will be looking for more ladies, and he will mate them relentlessly unless they can escape into a different yard.

Moar dux. . Seems to be the general consensus. Saxonys were actually my first pick, but since DH seems to think we more want to keep them for eggs, he preferred to get the WH. I mean, it's not as if we won't have chicken eggs too, so idk. It might not be too late to update our order, there was a wait though for the Saxonys, which is fine, as long as I can still get them. What would be a good ratio for them? I am not sure I will be able to sell DH on seven ducks, but to me it's just a matter of building a bigger coop, but if they can all be more harmonious just by picking a different breed, that might tip the scales.

He is really pushing to free range everyone, but seems at least a little more open to an electric pasture fence for them to confined range in.

Same ratio for the saxonys.
Getting more females for a drake helps tip the scales but is not a fail safe by any means. Hopefully it'll all work out for you.

Yes more dux, and maybe a different drake. Not all WH are bad boys, but they're just known for that high libido.
My saxony ducks lay wayyyy too many eggs for me to eat. They're worth it, and they forage all. day. long. So feed intake won't be much more than WH feed.

Free ranging them would be great if you're planning on keeping a mixed flock.
