They don’t teach it at our schools. Poor kids can’t even sign their name.

Depends on the school here. We had our kids in a charter (basically publicly funded private school), and they were required to hand write everything in cursive except final drafts of assignments. The typical public schools are putting chromebooks in kids hands as soon as they start kindergarten, and this year my kids went into normal public school for the first time. So of course they're thrilled they don't have to hand write everything.
