Ok so you want to do deep bedding, not deep litter. Deep litter implies a dirt floor and everything self composts within the coop.

With deep bedding you keep adding shavings until it's about 12"+ thick, and clean it out once or twice a year. Is your coop tall enough for that?

Oh, alright. It is definitely tall enough. I try to keep at least 7" in there to ensure them a soft landing when they jump; 1 of my pullets keeps hurting her feet, so I try to make it easier on her.

So I just leave the in there during the winter? It would make sense then why the coop is so cold now; I've been scooping out their droppings.

We log cabin peeps mark the seasons with bugs. I'm used to it all. I just hate stink bugs. They're like little drunk helicopter pilots. Only instead of crashing and burning, they crash and stink.
