That's what I was wondering. We do tend to use butter regularly so haven't had a problem but I've never seen a bit of mold or anything, even in butter that was older.
We have "counter butter" (like stuff we keep out in a butter dish for spreading on toast and the like). And in summer here, it'll go bad if it doesn't get used up in a week or so. But I've never had butter in the fridge go bad.

Caveat! I don't usually get it fresh, and if we do, it vanishes quickly. :) So costco butter or Kerrygold may have a preservative in it.
 
how long do you have to keep butter around before it goes bad? I've never had that happen unless it got left out on the counter for 2 weeks.
I'm actually not sure but I guarantee you that I will write the date on the next package of butter that I buy when I buy it and I will let you know when I throw it away because there is zero doubt that it will go bad again.
That is how little I use butter.

You can freeze it too you know. I’ve done that
 
when we make homemade bread, we keep counter butter that doesn't get a chance to go bad.

I have had it get moldy in the butter bell. be warned.
