All the local chicken people have chicks for sale and they are so cute but I cannot buy more chickens

Is that working for you?
Last year, just before a hurricane was to hit, I took a bantam hen and her 1 chicken out of someone's garden. The lady told me they were feral. The chick is now a Rooster and has mated all of my hens, even the 8 large size hens.
One day the bantam hen disappeared. I found her about 3 weeks later, under my house with 15 chicks.
Then about 2 weeks ago a neighbor called to tell me someone had given their grandchildren 2 chicks for Easter. They are large size birds and orange, not like a RIR, orange. And they are very sweet.

I had read something on BYC about showing an animal who passed to the others in their group and how much it helped to reduce grieving time. I do wonder if I use a method which dismembers part of the animal, how the rest would react. Would they be satisfied just seeing that the animal had died or would a missing part freak them out.

If someone brought a chunk of my friend to me I would probably be able to tell what happened

I will have plenty of room. Once the coop is built. But it's not yet. And I'm not putting chickens in my house.

Maybe next spring I can be more flexible with my math. Once I've had a chance to bribe everyone with some eggs.
