There are a number of towns re-emerging in the western US as reservoirs drain. Interesting archaeology to be had there.

I'm not particularly familiar with any of the regions. Just going off my news bites. Would be something to see in person!

If you really wanna see some cool stuff, visit the Salton Sea area in CA. Basically it's the northern tip of a rift valley that the southern end of is Baja in Mexico. And it's slowly going to break off of Southern CA and detach from the continental US over the next few dozen million years. But you can see it in action, in person now.

As a geology nerd with specific interests in hydrology and volcanism, this is nerd heaven for me. Growing up in this area and visiting it along with the mud pots in Mexico is amazing.
