Fun fact

Western Canada is more like the southern USA in many ways, while eastern Canada is more like the northern USA. (Don't ask me why, just the way of the world)

So in Saskatchewan where I was born we said breakfast, dinner, supper. In Ontario where I live now, we say breakfast, lunch, dinner.

I just use them all depending on what comes out at the time
I have learned to ask "what time?" when invited to dinner... so many of my friends use "dinner" for the noon meal and some use "dinner" for the evening meal.

If "lunch" is used, it's understood to mean the noon meal. I'd have to look it up, but if I'm remembering correctly "luncheon," now usually just called lunch, began being used more during the Industrial Revolution when people were leaving the farms for jobs in towns and cities. Most of my farm friends will eat their main meal at noon and call it dinner and then have a lighter meal for supper. However, families with school children or day workers usually eat their main meal later in the day, but most around me still call it supper.
