Sold this cast iron fireback on Craigslist today. We got it on clearance years ago but never used it. We bought a wood burner insert for our fireplace so didn't need this. It's so pretty though

Nothing crazy. Our first winter up here (2020), we all had COVID, and we were all fevery and shivery, so we ran the electric heaters - too weak to get the wood in the snow. I almost fainted when we got the bill. I asked coworkers, and they all said theirs were like that in winter. In a normal month, it's at least $300. We don't have air conditioning, either. And no gas lines. And propane went up 300% this year, so that wouldn't help much either. Can't do solar because we live in the woods. It's just a trade off for living in this beautiful area
This Fall has been wonder for my power bill. It helps that I like it cool, but the house holds its temp really good in this weather so I rarely even have to turn it on. I am all electric. The bill I just got was $133. Last month was $156. August was a little over $400, though. Normally, July and August is a little over 300 as is January and Feb. I think my average is for the year is $225.
