All the kids wanted to watch us shoot the pig but my oldest wants to help further than that. All the other kids went to bed and she's still out there with her dad.

100% true. It bothered me way more than the kids when we started processing our own chickens a couple years ago. Not something I had ever been around growing up. I took care of our meat turkeys when I was a kid but we always sent them to a processor, didn't do it ourselves.

I'm telling ya, the bucks are the best part of owning goats
But if you don't like that then maybe a cow is the way to go. You could do AI and have a large quantity of milk from just the one animal. Doing AI on a herd of goats for less milk just wouldn't be worth it.

You'd have milk for a year, but then she'd have to be bred again...

I promise you even the jerks aren't mean to their girls. In fact, even with other animals they're extremely affectionate. This big fella slept in the dog house with my LGD every night. And he was best buds with my cows.

Me, too. I really kinda hate it all anymore. Hubby loves it, so I go along and try to be less Grinchy. I'd probably have more fun if I had grandbabies. And also if I didn't have to do everything myself. Hubby does lights, but I do the tree and the house and the gift buying and the wrapping and the cooking and the baking and the Christmas cards.... Blech. Hope I get a gift this year (from someone other than me). I already bought pjs and some books and wrapped them so that I will at least have SOMETHING this year.

Your hubby must be really good in some department for you to have stuck with him so long, because he sounds like someone I would have kicked to curb
