which came first, the crow or the slaughter?

Neighbors are a bit like cry babies about the crowing, we've had to keep roosters on the opposite side of the property, but we'd want to put the meat birds near his side of the property and we're wondering if the birds usually start crowing before or after slaughter day.

Does it depend on breed?

I'm curious about these types in particular:

Jersey Giant
Cochin
CornishX
Saipan Jungle
Indian Game

As far as I know the Cornish x are the only ones that will not crow before slaughter time.. They dont live long enough to crow.. The others I would assume would start just after a few months..

More traditional dual purpose breeds (like the Jersey Giant) are more likely to crow before you slaughter them because it takes longer for them to reach slaughter weight. An eight week old cornish X is too young to crow; a 12 week old Jersey Giant may very well be starting to crow, and might still not be big enough to eat.

I have no experience with either cochins or game birds. I was under the impression that cochins were all feathers, are they good for meat?
