Which Charger for an Electric Fence?

I need to put up an electric fence around my poultry's free ranging area. I caught a fox on my game cam, the neighbor's dogs trespass (although they don't bother the birds, I'd rather they not be over there), the neighbor's pot belly pig keeps coming over and eating all my chicken feed, and, worst of all, their children keep trespassing and bothering the birds.

So, what kind of charger should I get to power this thing? Needs to repel foxes, dogs, pigs, and humans, while also not frying my birds. I need to fence in about two acres. Any suggestions? I'm looking at possibly this one.

Depends on the fence type. If you're using netting it's nowhere big enough. If using polywire, I'd still go bigger as it has a lot more resistance than high tensile steel wire. Weed and grass contact also increase resistance.

Regular polywire fence won't keep the birds in, so netting is your best bet. Measuring in acres doesn't really work. Gotta look at linear feet.

It's good to about 1500' of netting if maintained properly (good grounds and light weeds.) But I expect weed loads and other issues to inhibit along the way.

I'm using steel wire. Don't really need to keep the birds in, just the other stuff out. They have their own runs, it's just the free ranging area I'm going to surround, and that's mostly to deter the neighbor's kids and the pig. The fox, too.

There is a big price difference between an AC powered charger and a solar powered battery model. About 2X to 3x more expensive for the solar option.

What type of fence are you planning to use? Netting, wire or poly rope or tape?

I use a 4 light wire system, running on a Parmak 30 mile charger and it seems to repel all boarders. For the use you describe, I would not trade that Fi-Shock you linked to for my Parmak. Not even in the same league.
