I currently have 5 chickens (after the great dog disaster this spring) but plan on getting more babies this fall.

It's an open air 3 walled coop as I'm in Texas and it a tad warm most of the time. I have a feeder on a brick on the floor of my coop but was wanting to get something improved...

We have a wee bit of a mouse/rat issue in the entire county right now. As in Pied Piper level of issue... I have bobcat pee hanging in the coop (and around the car... sigh) but I know that they are still a big issue despite my best efforts.

I saw the Grandpa's treadle feeder, but at $200 I am having a hard time convincing myself that this is my only option. My mom, who has had chickens for 40 years, thought it was nuts and swore that her feeder hanging from her coop ceiling worked just as well.

I was hoping for input on this and if you like your ceiling hanging metal feeder, is there a brand that is better than the other?

Thanks for the input!

You can have my metal one. It sometimes gets condensation on it, and it's heavy. I like the inexpensive white plastic ones you get in most feed stores. Easy to hand, and take apart to clean.

I found chicken feeders on Walmart web site. Metal with the rooler bar on top to keep chickens from sitting on the feeder. They are called range feeders about 12 or 16 doolars, and can be shipped to your local store at no cost. They are 3 to 4 feet. Walmart.com type in range feeders.
