which cockeral to keep?

Hi Everyone,

I orderd Silkies from ____ and wanted only 1 male but oops I got 2 (maybe 3) by mistake. I have 1 beautiful white, 1 black, and 1 partridge. I really only want 1. Can you help me decide what color to keep? I want a color that can give me a good variety of colors for chicks. I have blue, white, splash and black pullets. I am new to this and I am not sure what color to keep.

Since you have blue, black, and splash pullets, if you kept the black roo, you could get more blue and black, (and eventually) splash offspring.

White is a mystery to me, because it could be dominant white or recessive white. I have no idea what you'd get with crossing the white roo, except that you'd probably get white chicks from the white pullet.

Of course, you could always pen the whites separately from the blue/black/splashes, then keep both the black and the white roos.

It seems to me that the partridge roo is the odd man out. I'd rehome him, but that's just me. I like to keep everything with it's own color variety.

Thanks lauralou. I guess I need to find a home for the partridge. I wish I could keep them all but the crowing competion is crazy at 3a.m.!!

I agree, with the colors of hens that you have, I would keep the black one too.
