Hmmm. He shakes his head violently when the other rooster crows, as if he can't stand the sound. When a windstorm blew the door off the coop when I was in Europe, my hubby found them in a bad fight outside, with the elderly roo cowed on the ground, seemingly near death. Hubby separated them, and the older roo recovered. This same type of thing happened a year ago, and I found the elderly roo cowering under a rosebush, which was unsettling, because he has always been so virile and cocky. The younger roo picks fights with him through the mesh fence, stressing him, but that is now all over, as I no longer allow the younger roo outside, so he can't get to the older roo through the fence. They do still have crowing competitions, though. I suppose the violent head-shaking when he hears the other rooster crowing could indicate an ear infection. He's always been a head-shaker, though.
