Which duck is best? Call, mallard, or pekin?

Not really, the cold males die, the hot females die- but when the temp is perfect everyone hatches 50/50 just like any other bird.

I would guess if done perfectly and if someone is OK with -killing- the embryos it might work on other birds but the problem is you would have to try over and over to get a hatch but less then 50% but more then 25%...

If done half should die with a large enough group (like 100 eggs) but not kill the weak males (or females if one is selecting for females)...

sounds like bad news for the birds, also it may cause abnormalities.

... hows that? an eggshell with 2 cells in it (sperm and egg) that is being incubated is living because it is growing, responding to the environment, and using energy..., altering the conditions to be unfavorable to it is killing it.

people eat chickens and ducks and balut... its if you are ok with killing it.

It's not 'alive' if its never incubated... maybe...

Besides that's not how it worked in class, in class of the ones that didn't hatch (nearly 50 eggs, the whole 8th grade class was getting ducks) were 2/3rds devloped, they got to about day 18-20ish or so... little mostly formed ducks(52ish?%)... some (23?%)made it to the lockdown event and the yolk sac.

(to check an egg get an empty baby food jar and seal the egg in, shake...)

Thanks for all of the help! Sorry i didnt specify exactly what i was looking for. I was tired of deciding for myself and i wanted to hear other people's opinions. I just want a friendly duck that isnt too loud. Oh and Mrpekinduck, are those your pekins in your profile pic? where did you get them?

Yeah they're my pekin girls. I got them from a poultry farm in white plains, NY

Loud= most females except Muscovies

Very Loud = female calls

friendly= all three

Funny= Pekin and Muscovies

Cute= Calls

Pretty = calls and Pekin

Very Small = Calls

Very Quiet= Muscovies, males of other breeds

Very large = Muscovies, some Pekin

No calls if you can't have loud ducks,
No Muscovies if you cant have huge ducks-
Pekin can also get large if they are breed for meat,
my egg "Pekin" (white hybrid egg layers hens) are very and loud,
the males are very friendly and quiet but they are about 6-8 pounds and 1.5 feet tall and unable to fly do to weight (well and the enclosed pen).

If you can have Khaki Campbell they are the same size as a mallard and males are quiet.
