I have a lake and have decided to get a pair of ducks. What would be a good duck to get. Want a duck that will raise their own babies, Not interested in Scovy ducks.

I had a gang of Buff Orpington ducks that made a communal nest in my lilac bush and emerged with about 40 ducklings between them all one year. I don't know how many ducklings survived my cats but I know that many of them did. But I'm sure there are lots of breeds that would work out for you....

Well, first of all, you can't have just 1 pair

Right now I have silkie ducks and a few pekins. I've had lots of different breeds, and some of my favorites were runners and rouens. My fawn and white crested runner hatched out 12 of her own babies, but from what I understand, they typically don't set. My rouens were very pretty, and handsome

, and they were a nice large duck. I also enjoyed the khaki campbells (sp). I'm not sure how well they set on eggs though... Sorry if that was no help at all!

Here are a few pics...

I would say just pick which breed you like best. I've been told that my ducks are not broody breeds, but I've had rouens, pekins, and cayugas that all have set eggs.
