I would like to purchase a few Salmon Faverolle chicks next spring and unfortunately I cannot find any breeders in my area. I will probably end up having to order from a hatchery. I only want them for pets, no breeding or showing, but I would really like that "true" hen color of light feathers. I've read a lot of posts on this site of hatcheries selling dark colored females, close to the color of the males. I've seen Ideal hatchery come up a lot in complaints, and in the past thought I read either Meyer or Murray McMurray selling dark color females, too. Has anyone had good luck with their hatchery SFs having correct color? If so, which hatchery were they from? Again, the only qualities I'm after are personality and correct coloring. Thanks!

I've ordered from Ideal the last two years to raise some for friends. Their color and size is off. Hens are way to dark, some are nearly a solid dark red color. Males I can't say as I've always ordered pullets. They don't nearly as big as they should. If you wanting to use them to breed "and get close to the APA standard" I wouldn't.

Over the years I've seen a lot of McMurray birds. And I have to say none of them were anywhere close to what they should look like.

I'd recommend finding a breeder to buy breeding stock. Or see if you can get some eggs at least.
