Which hatchery should i order from!!!!!!???????

I have ordered several times from Townline and while the selection is not big, the quality is very good for a hatchery. We have been very happy with them. If you want exotic breeds or special stuff you probably need to go with one of the huge hatcheries, but don't expect any type of quality. I hope Townline does not grow so big that the quality turns yucky. I get ISA, BR's, and BO's from them and all have been awesome. The ISA's are like serious laying machines. Good luck!

Just curious, why a hatchery? There are plenty breeders and feedstores around you. The feedstores get their chicks from hatcheries, so they're readily available, and with breeders you actually see the parent stock, you know what you're getting (most of the time, sometimes there are "breeders" who have hatchery stock) and you'll end up having prettier, often healthier chickens.

well, you see, i am one of those people that have always wanted something in a cetin way, such as if i get chicks, i want to order them through the mail, or get them from a feed store, but the feed stores won't have chicks when i get them, in 2 months is when my dad will let me. besides i live way up northwest ND, not going to be hardly any chicken breeders.

i love the EEs too! but i want to show my chickens at the fair (sorry, when it comes to something that i'm obsessed with, i'm very picky) my sis might order EEs. but the only 1 thing i don't like about cackle is that if lets say i want 1 roo an 1 hen (along with the rest of the order) but i can't... i have to order 5 hens on that one breed, then i can get a roo or 2. but, i guess the more chickens the marrier, i'll look into cackle agin

If you're planning on showing your chickens you really should look at getting some from a breeder....the quality will be much better.

This is from a sticky in the hatchery section. A tremendous amount of information, but I wish more people would rate the different hatcheries.

You are not stuck with ordering 25 from all hatcheries. Some will ship fewer birds, but several will also ship packing peanuts so your numbers could climb back up. Cackle used to have a 15 minimum but they will now ship fewer chicks. The cost does go up though because they have to add something for heat. Ideal lets you buy fewer birds. I think your risks go up too when you ship fewer birds but many people have great success doing this.

The general idea is to pick a hatchery near you to reduce shipping time and stress. It really depends on what shipping routes the post office uses to get your order to you, where their collection and distribution points are. I don't know how to find out that information, so buying from one fairly close is probably a good idea.

Good luck and congratulations!
