Which Hen?

I've got 3 RIR's 1 Speckled sussex and 1 Light sussex all laying, but this morning i got a really strange egg, Which hen laid it? All the eggs i have gotten so far are the same colour as the egg on the left, but some are smaller



Left - RiR's
Right- ???
It doesn't show it in the picture but the darker egg is covered in little black dots.

It's pretty! I don't think there is a way to know who laid it other then watching them and seeing who it is. I've heard of random weird egg color changes but don't know why it happens. Sorry!

The only type of hen that I can think of with dark brown speckled eggs is a Maran, but you don't have one of those. hmmmm... perplexing.

I was thinking maran also. Welsummers lay brown eggs too. But that looks like a maran egg. Great color whatever it is. That hen is a keeper. I would put money on the RIR. My neighbor has them and gets a dark egg occasionally.
