The only local feed store around my place is tsc. They only carry two brands, DuMor and Puring "start and grow"(?). For adults they have blue seal (which i have used for my show rabbits for years, but anyhow, which of the two chick starters are better? I also plan to grind my own feed this summer, but for right now i am sticking with store bought. So, any ideas or opinions?

The Purina gets my vote.

I am using the Purina medicated chick starter on the 13 pullets I have now and so far so good. It is a little better priced at tsc than other places I've looked. I will stick with it on my next batch of chicks I am getting next week too.

When we got first got our chicks we picked up the little bag (5#) of ManaPro starter. Went back to Orschlens and got two more bags cause it was on sale. We decided that would get expensive quick for 13 chicks! Eva picked up a 25# bag of the Dumoor and the chicks flat out hate it. Even mixing it with the ManaPro they just wouldn't eat. Yesterday we made a trip to "The Feed Store" in Charlestown Indiana for a bag of the DE(only place around we could find it!). They had a bag of the Purina opened there by the baby chick tubs. You could sure smell the difference! The Purina just smelled so much better than the Dumor. Enough that we came home with a bag ! The chicks love it! They eat it even better than the MannaPro. I don't think any of it goes to waste.

So.....another vote for the Purina Start-n-Grow!
