Which is cheaper. A DIY or bought?

I have a 5ftx8ft shed type coop with a 16ftx16ft run area and was a DIY. Total so far coop = $350-$400 est. run =$180 est. My time (about a month)and the chics =$ priceless.

I am going the DIY way. I dont really have the extra cash right now to be able to buy a nice shed or a built coop...so I am doing a pallet coop.

A local music store posted on craigslist 30+ free pallets. My dad and I picked them up that day, and so far I have $12 in screws and $60 for a new saws-all invested in my coop (plus the little gas to go get the pallets!). Its a 4x5 coop, and Im thinking the only thing I will spend money on will be the run due to living very close to the woods with lots of critters..

Ill post pictures once I get it finished!
