I've read and read about which breeds are the quietest, and Buff Orpingtons and Easter Eggers are the ones I've seen most. But is one more queit than the other? Or are they both equally quiet? Since I live in a city, I have a neighbor that I'm not quite familiar with but I wouldn't want to star off on the wrong foot and get noisy chickens that would bother them.

So the question is, which is quieter? Or are they both equally quiet?

I have never had Orpingtons. But always have had EEs or pure Ameraucanas too. They are so quiet we got away with bringing some home into the city and never got noticed. So very quiet birds!

I have both Buff Orphington and EE and the Buff is definitely more relaxed. She comes running up to me as soon as I go outside while the EE is nervous and always running away.

All of my girls like to make a bit of noise after an egg. They just get so proud! But no worries, they sound just like a bunch of frolicking squirrels so no complaints from the neighbors - they don't even know.

I've had both, Orpingtons win over Ameraucanas 100%, in my book. They are more relaxed, less excitable, docile and QUIET. Wynadottes are pretty docile too. I've got 2 Orpingtons, 3 Wynadottes & 1 Ameraucana, the Ameraucana stands out from the rest, very flighty too but they're all great and fun to watch.

I have Buff Orpingtons and Easter Eggers and the Easter Eggers never make any noise. The first few times they laid, they did the egg song, but now they don't. The Buffs are quiet most of the time, but their egg songs are pretty loud. Both breeds are very friendly. They all walk up to me every morning to be pet. I have 2 dogs (one is a giant Malamute) and 1 rabbit and they all get along and hang out together. I think the chickens know that the dog is good to have around because there are a lot of Ravens in my area.
