Sorry they are all boys!! I’m picking up some straight run BJG soon. Last year I got 1male, 1 female from the straight run... hoping for no worse than 50:50 this year, but time will tell.


We auctioned some unwanted chickens in January at a livestock auction place. It was a good experience, everything sold, we averaged $7/bird before commission, and walked away with cash. We didn’t have to feed them thru the rest of the winter!

If they are only 5/6 months old, they won’t be very meaty, and they’ll need some low/slow cooking. BJG grow slowly, building their frame before putting on the muscle.

I'd actually grow them out and butcher them myself. They were bred to be meat birds...
